Before getting into any specifics and a few purchases, it’s best to first listen to and learn about different electronic music artists. Finding the sound that interests one the most is the first step to defining their desired sound. Choose an electronic music genre to produce. It could be house, dubstep, ambient, trap, or a totally new sound. Acquire basic music production equipment which includes a laptop or a PC, digital audio workstation, musical instrument digital interface (keyboard or grid controller, digital audio mixer, headphones, and microphone).

Build knowledge by watching to tutorials on YouTube or reading updates from the best producers. An aspiring electronic music producer can gain confidence by practicing sounds and beats on their devices. Remember to brush up on the fundamentals of music. Music theory may not be the favorite, but it sure is essential.

According to Haidak, an aspiring electronic music producer can move onto learning about music structure and arrangement once they’ve mastered, or at least become familiar with, music theory. Electronic music composition relies heavily on structure and arrangement. When songs have structures and have been arranged according to a producer’s taste, it is time to mix. Mixing deals with the volume level, panoramic position, frequency content, and dynamics of a song.
