Beyond the DJ world: Creating sound for film

Image
European-based DJ Haidak has often said that one of the best things about his profession is that he never stops learning. Every day, he tinkers with his gear and learns to find new sounds to put into loops. His background in sound and music has helped him develop a keen awareness, whenever he watches movies and TV shows.  Image source: flickr.com Haidak mentions that sound and music plays a huge role in the quality and success of a film or TV show. In fact, one of the things Haidak finds extremely fascinating is sound design and engineering. These are the sounds that may sound real, but are actually made artificially, such as explosions, gun shots, and even the eerie creaks of hardwood floors in suspense thrillers. Throughout the years, sound design has become more and more sophisticated. Sound designers have put in immense effort to make the sound in films become extremely realistic. And that process doesn’t take into account the timing of these sound effects – yet.  Image
